I don’t get why Riot wouldn’t go ahead and buy the whole studio outright. Riot Games has invested in its collaborator, Paris-based 3D animation studio Fortiche Production. However, I’m a little thrown off that this is an investment in a non-controlling stake of the company. It’s just a better fit, plain and simple. This is way more genius than the Bandcamp acquisition, though. 14, 2022 Riot Games, the developer and publisher known for League of Legends and the breakout animated series Arcane, and Fortiche Production, the animation studio behind Arcane and many League videos, today announced a new equity investment by Riot in Fortiche. We recently discussed Epic Games buying Bandcamp, which relates to this story in the context that we are seeing more major gaming companies branch out into other forms of entertainment. If Riot starts providing more financial backing for Fortiche, allowing the animation studio to expand, then it could develop several other League of Legends shows alongside Arcane. We are usually big fans of the things they are doing. During its initial launch week from November 15th to November 21st, it was the most-watched English-language Netflix program in the world. The two parties have previously collaborated on various music videos including Get Jinxed, a song that celebrated League champion Jinx.Īrcane has been an unprecedented success since it was released on Netflix last November. Fortiche Production is a French Animation Studio best known for creating Animations and Cinematics for Riot Games Inc. We put our passion in every aspect, from design. As proud as we are of Arcane, we know the best is yet to come.”Īrcane is not the only project that Riot has worked with Fortiche on. Fortiche is a creative production company and a studio able to take in charge of every step of animation movies. “In working with Fortiche, we collaborate to push the boundaries of what’s possible and raise expectations for how games can be represented in media. “Fortiche has been an integral partner for a long time, but this agreement ensures we’ll be working closely for decades to come,” said Nicolo Laurent, the CEO of Riot, in a press statement. Fortiche Prod is a creative studio specialized in 3D animations and visual F/X for commercials, music videos, video games and various digital contents. This will see Riot own a non-controlling stake of the company while also being allowed to appoint two executives to Fortiche’s board of directors. The two businesses are also cooperating on additional unannounced initiatives, according to the press statement announcing the collaboration.Riot Games recently announced it had invested in Fortiche Production, the Paris-based animation studio behind the hit Netflix show Arcane. Season one debuted at number one on Netflix worldwide in November 2021, where it remained for three weeks, and has received several award nominations.įortiche has collaborated with Riot on a number of other projects, including the Warriors, POP/STARS, and Rise music videos. We know that, as proud as we are of Arcane, the best is yet to come.”Īfter the first season of Arcane proven to be a global sensation on Netflix, the two firms are presently hard at work on season two. They moved on to creating music videos, created for Freak Kitchen, Gorillaz and LIMOUSINE. From the start, a combination of 2D and 3D animation has defined the studios style, the 'Touche Fortiche'. “Everyone we deal with is held to a high standard, and we demand that they truly understand gamers and persistently focus on them, and Fortiche has personified Player Experience First from day one.” We cooperate with Fortiche to push the limits of what is possible and raise expectations for how games may be portrayed in media. Fortiche was founded in 2009 and initially created commercials for Coca-Cola, Honda, Samsung, Panasonic and MTV. “Fortiche has always been an important partner, but this arrangement assures that we’ll continue to collaborate for decades to come,” said Nicolo Laurent, Riot’s CEO. Riot will have a non-controlling share in Fortiche, and Brian Wright, Chief Content Officer at Riot, and Brendan Mulligan, Director of Corporate Development at Riot, will join the board of directors at Fortiche, according to a news statement from the two firms. Riot Games has invested “significantly” in Fortiche Production, the animation company behind the Arcane anime series, which was one of Netflix’s most popular in 2021.
